10up 2012- Registration is now open

The Young Architects Forum of Atlanta (YAF Atlanta) is pleased to announce the third Annual 2012 competition entitled 10Up. We’re calling on young designers to step up to the 10Up challenge! Each year MA (Modern-Atlanta) hosts a celebration of architecture and design with a week of events in and around the city of Atlanta. This year the executive directors and founders of MA have once again asked the Young Architects Forum of Atlanta (YAF Atlanta) to create a 
competition for a temporary outdoor installation which will act as a beacon for this week of events.

An Introduction to Passive House

This special event features SDA member firm Greyling Insurance Brokerage performing mock negotiations with attendee participation encouraged.  The presentation will include the following learning objectives: 1-Standard of Care: understand the design professional’s proper standard of care, 2-Indemnification: what should your firm agree to, 3-Laws/Codes: how to respond when you are asked to comply with all laws and codes, 4-Insurance: recognize what is and is not insurable in a typical contract. Cost: $40.00 payable by cash or check the day of the luncheon.  All checks should be made payable to “SDA Atlanta”.

AFHA Treehouse Competition

Architecture for Humanity Atlanta is proud to announce our first annual Tree House Design Competition!

 

We are still working out some details. But, submissions are due on November 10, with prizes to be awarded at The Treehouse Restaurant and Pub on November 17. Prizes awarded for Juried Winner, People's Choice, and Kid's Choice. 

 

To facilitate design and interest we are hosting two working sessions. One at Condessa Coffee House on October 23 at 1 p.m., to discuss the various requirements for trees and structure in designing a tree house properly. As well as sharing knowledge on digital platforms such as Sketch Up, Revit, and Photoshop. The second session is on October 30 at Piedmont Park, at 1 p.m. for a tree stroll.

Explore Atlanta Photography Competition

The Atlanta chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Atlanta) and Atlanta magazine have teamed together to announce an innovative architectural photography competition called "Explore Atlanta"  for architectural professionals and students. Entrants must be 18 years of age and older.
 

Subject Matter:
Each photograph shall capture a prominent and recognizable architectural element or portion of a building taken at street level. The building subject should  be located within the following borders of the city of Atlanta provided on the map below:

 

Northern Limit: Buildings along 10th Street

Southern Limit: Interstate 20
Eastern Limit: Buildings along Monroe Drive NE, Bouldevard Avnue NE and Boulevard Avenue SE
Western Limit: Buildings along Northside Drive NW and Northside Drive SW

 

Photographers with multiple entries are encouraged to offer a range of images with a mix of building styles.


Award:
The top eight to twelve (8 to 12) images  will be featured in the printed February 2012 edition of Atlanta Magazine along with an on-line thumb-size image and brief bio of the winning photographer.  Up to 20 images from photographers will be featured in the February 2012 on-line edition of Atlanta Magazine.  

Entry Fee:

The entry fee for the competition is $10.00 for non-AIA members and is free to AIA Atlanta members.  AIA Atlanta members shall include their active membership numbers. Checks for entry fee shall be made payable to AIA Atlanta. For additional information on payment, please contact Victoria at 404-222-0099 x105.  The entry fee is non-refundable. All entrants must complete the entry form on-line or mail the submission form to:

Entry Criteria:
· Each entrant may submit up to 5 different images  for the competition.
· Entries must have been taken and owned by the participant.
· There is no date or time restriction.
· Photos must be in color.
· Each image submission must be accompanied by:
-Name of Building
-Building Street Address
-Overall building image of where the photo was taken
-Brief description detailing the location of the image, i.e. corner of 10th and West Peachtree Street NE
· A 30-word bio and photo headshot JPEG of 75 dpi.
· All images must be formatted as high quality JPEGs of 1800x 1200 pixels.  
-Image files should be as follows: lastname_buildingname01.jpg; lastname_buildingname02.jpg  or
lastname_streetaddress01.jpg;  lastname_streetaddress02.jpg
 

· Submit entries via email to exploreatlanta2011@gmail.com or mail to AIA Atlanta.
· Entry Deadline: Entries must be received online or postmarked by Monday, November 7, 2010.

On site registration for Legacy Charette

Pre-registration for the AIA Georgia Conference is closed. 

Students may register onsite for the legacy charette.  Please allow plenty of time to register on Friday prior to the site visit (see attached). 

If faculty or staff can provide us with an estimated number of students attending it would be helpful for planning purposes.  We need that by noon Wednesday.
